Aim of the Programme Module This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills, and competence in the principles, practices, and guidelines underpinning best practice in childminding, enabling the learner to work professionally with children and parents in a childminding context within the home setting.
Objectives of the Programme Module
  • Explore the roles and responsibilities of the childminder.
  • Understand relevant legislation and best practice guidelines.
  • Acquire the knowledge required to engage effectively with children and parents.
  • Develop the ability to write policies and procedures for a childminding service.
  • Develop academic and vocational language, literacy, and numeracy skills related to Early Childhood Care and Education 5M2009 through the indicative content.
  • Take responsibility for his/her own learning.

Assessments

The assessor is required to devise assessment briefs and marking schemes for the project and collection of work.  In devising the assessment briefs care should be taken to ensure that the learner is given the opportunity to show evidence of achievement of ALL the learning outcomes. Assessment briefs may be designed to allow the learner to make use of a wide range of media in presenting assessment evidence, as appropriate. Quality assured procedures must be in place to ensure the reliability of learner evidence.

Assignment 1 – Project 50%

Project  can be completed over 6-8 weeks

The project will provide evidence of learning for Learning Outcomes 1,2,4,5,6,7,10

The project will investigate Current legislation and how this relates to best practice for a home based service, covering:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the child-minder
  • Current legislation, national guidelines  and its implications for practice
  • Importance of on-going training and professional development

Evidence for this assessment technique may take the form of written, oral, graphic, audio, visual or digital evidence, or any combination of these. Any audio, video or digital evidence must be provided in a suitable format.

All instructions for the learner must be clearly outlined in an assessment brief.

  • Safety
  • Behaviour
  • Delivering and Collecting
  • Illness
