This assignment allows the learner to improve your reading skills by engaging with a written piece and sharing your thoughts on it + to show your ability to understand and assess media content and digital communication in everyday situations.

Instructions:

Choose ONE of the following media-related tasks:

1.       Comparing News Stories: Find two news articles on the same topic from different sources.

ü  Look for differences in how they are written, what they focus on and whether they show any bias.

2.       Spotting Misinformation: Find two examples of fake news or misleading online content.

  • Explain how it spreads, why people believe it and how to check if something is true

Types of text you may pick to read:

  • Blog post or online article.
  • News articles.
  • Personal essay or opinion piece.
  • Fictional letter or diary entry.
  • Short story or book extract.
  • Vocational or industry-related article.

After picking one of the above show your understanding by completing the following:

  • Identifying how the text is written (style, tone, structure).
  • Recognising key themes and ideas (this can be done by answering the tick section).
  • Explaining your personal response to the text.

Guidelines:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems that can solve problems or generate original text/graphics using the internet for source material or ‘learning’. Examples of AI technology include: Copilot, ChatGPT, MidJourney, Charatcter.AI, etc.

Assessor Decision: Can the learner use AI for this Assessment:
