Integrative Psychotherapy in Practice Essay Assignment: A Personal Philosophy and Case Study of Complex Addiction

In this essay, learners must present a personal integrative approach to clinical work that is rooted in a chosen model of integration and informed by the scientific literature from a range of disciplines, such as including Integrative psychotherapy, other psychotherapeutic modalities, psychology, psychiatry and social work.

Learners must showcase how and why the chosen theoretical approaches are being integrated. They will present an exploration of how team-based supervision, feedback and deliberate practice have aided in the development of the personal integrative approach. Furthermore, they should evaluate gaps in this approach and present a plan to address same.

In the second part of the essay, learners should, with reference to their clinical work:

• Demonstrate how they have applied their theoretical approach in their clinical work, and evaluate the efficacy of the integrative approach applied to the case.
• Explore therapeutic and professional relationships
• Describe and evaluate the impact of race, culture, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, class and gender on clients, the therapeutic relationship, and their practice
• Describe how they managed clinical ethical issues such as confidentiality and consent in this assessment.
• Drawing on scholarly literature of decolonisation and decolonising practices, demonstrate ability to critically evaluate your own epistemological assumptions, consider how they play out in your therapeutic relationships, and showcase ability to dismantle and re-create a more respectful positioning towards “otherness”.
