This assessment aims to develop the necessary academic skills in reading and
writing through the preparation of a response to a published article.

The introduction to this assessment should include the overall aim of the article and a brief
introduction to the discussion. It should also refer to the type of publication where this
article/report/position paper is published.
It should briefly address the author’s/authors’ credentials and their standing within the field of study — as far as you can surmise from the article.
Main body/discussion (approx. 700 words)
The main body of your critique should include an evaluation of the major points made in the
article. Discuss the areas under review and discuss the relevance of it to nursing practice.
To guide your writing, consider the following questions. Was it clear, concise, focused, well-structured and backed up by evidence? What impact could this have on nursing practice?
Conclusion (approx. 150 words)
In your conclusion, you should give your concluding remarks on the overall article. Please
refer to how this may influence your future practice as a nursing student.

1,000 words, +/− 10% (excluding references) Referencing
Use and reference appropriate research in the body of your critique. Compile a reference
